Cord blood umbilical cord blood bank opens

Shanghai’s first umbilical cord blood bank officially opened yesterday to provide life-saving treatments for leukemia and other cancer patients, Shanghai Daily reported.

Beijing and Tianjin have the only other umbilical cord blood banks in the nation.The opening of the Shanghai Umbilical Cord Blood Bank follows a year of preparations to meet Ministry of Health standards for licensing. Along the way, the blood bank collected 1,500 samples and provided cord blood to nine leukemia patients, six of whom were cured.
